I’ve made this super simple Raw Avocado Chocolate Mousse recipe a few times for a quick, satisfying, and healthy dessert. This is very easy, and kids can definitely make it. It’s a healthy chocolate mousse made with only 3 ingredients (5 if you want to be fancy). Avocado, chocolate, and maple syrup. You might think it’s odd, but give it a try and you’ll be convinced!
Why is this dessert healthier than most desserts out there? Because it only has a few ingredients, and because it’s made with avocados. Avocados have been popular in the recent years because on top of being versatile in the kitchen, they are a great source of omega 3, an essential fatty acid that many North-Americans need (i.e., good fats).
The 80s and 90s were such strange decades when everybody thought that all fats were bad and it all started the fat-free craze, but as we now know, we need fat for our bodies (including our brain) to function. Without good fat, our body cannot absorb certain micro-nutrients, such as the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and even protein (nutrient), among many other things. Without good fat, it is also very hard to lose weight, funny enough.
Some of the health benefits from eating avocados include arthritis relief, lower blood cholesterol levels and decreased risk of heart disease.
Another healthy component of this recipe is the cocoa powder, preferably raw cacao powder, which is a good source of minerals, especially magnesium. This essential mineral helps in maintaining healthy functions in muscles, nerves, and bones, as well as blood pressure and a healthy heart rhythm.
So go ahead and enjoy a healthy treat (in moderation, of course)!
You can make it in a food processor, or in a blender (I’ve tried both).
